I come from a background in Customer Experience and Human Centred Learning. I have spent the past 20 years teaching snowboarding, working as a Staff Trainer and managing educational teams within the Snowsports Industry. Alongside this career I have been employed in contract roles working for national brand names, charities and professional associations.
I am also a creative, running an illustration studio and art practice. I graduated in 2013 with a degree from Edinburgh College of Art in Fine Art, Intermedia. I have since run a contemporary art practice participating in international artist residencies and exhibitions.
I am now using my broad skillset to enhance companies internal and external digital services.
Snowboarding has taught me a lot from learning that nearly anything is possible to understanding how to get along with people from all walks of life.
In 1998 I left the UK for the Alps. A couple of years later I was on a plane to New Zealand. This became a yearly commute flying to the southern hemisphere for 16 years. Over the years I have worked in many countries and in various capacities. I am also certified as a SBINZ snowboard trainer since 2007 and ISIA instructor since 2006.
In recent years I have been based in Niseko, Japan. Working for a small snowsports school teaching primarily guests from the Asia Pacific region.
I have set up a marketing platform called Nomadice to sell niche snowboard camps, powder tours and instructor training. Creating on trend snowboarding events such as introduction to splitboarding and powder surfing camps was a highlight of these seasons.
I doubt I will ever go a year without snowboarding as it has been such a huge part of my life and in some ways has created who I am today.
I have always been a creative individual, drawing and building sculptures since I was young. As I have aged I have created a distinct illustration style and currently create one off drawings and text pieces under the moniker Same Old Caviar.
I can normally be found with a black Bic biro in my pocket as it is my preferred drawing implement.
Alongside my years working in the mountains I have managed to study and gain a BA Hons in Fine Art Intermedia from Edinburgh College of Art.
Since graduating in 2013 I have operated an active art practice participating in artist residencies in the UK, Armenia and Greece.
I have exhibited internationally showing audio/visual works alongside 2D and 3D works. I continue to seek out new ways of working and exhibiting both here in the UK and overseas.
In 2021 I was able to attend the 3 month UX Bootcamp delivered by The Coders Guild.
This course allowed me to realise how much UX I had done within my roles both overseas and in the UK. Even how my creative thinking drew so many similarities with design thinking. This course reinforced my motivations that a step into UX would be the right move combining both skills and personality traits.
Since 2001 I have progressed through the SBINZ system. Gaining my trainers certification in 2007. This certification allows you to train other instructors to teach. I have since written curriculum for snowsports schools, examined future candidates and mentored staff members on their instructor journey.
